Planning a branding session
Planning for branding photography is like telling a story. When we are thinking about what to do an easy way to approach it is the same way we did in elementary school. Who, What, When, Where and Why.
First we need to determine WHO is the subject of your session. Are you a solo entrepreneur? (Think Baker, Interior Designer and Landscaper) Do you have partners or employees to feature in the session? (Real Estate Office, Dentist and Florist) How about clients, will they be shown? (Hair Salon, Gym and Restaurant)
Then we decide WHAT we are trying to say with your session. A brand is about much more than the service or product you offer. Tell me what drives you and your brand. What message we want to convey to the viewer and what the ultimate goal of the session is. There is a huge difference in “I need a headshot” and “I want new portraits that let my real estate clients know I am a friendly face that can be trusted. That I have their best interest at heart and that I am selling homes at a certain price point” All of this can be portrayed in a single photograph so outlining the goal is very important.
Next up is WHEN. Are you launching a new brand, website or product? Do you have a print article coming up and need the photography before deadline? Let me know how the images will be used and when you need them.
WHERE is another big one. This heavily effects the overall message of your branding session. Your where might be in your office, in The Studio, outdoors on location, at another business like a local coffee shop you love etc. Once we know your WHAT we can figure out your WHERE.
Finally WHY are we doing this session. I’ve already gone over goals and messaging but understanding every way the images could be used will help us plan long term and get you the most versatile work.
Planning a branding session takes some thought but i’m here to take the weight off, make suggestions and do a deep dive myself to help you determine creatively what the best option for you is.
