Jamie & Emily
Jamie and Emily are on my 2023 schedule and I could not be happier. This couple is so fun to be around and a breeze to photograph. For their engagement session we decided to go out to their farm land during golden hour.
Golden hour sessions have a very specific look so how do you answer the question; should I do a golden hour photoshoot?
Considering things like the location, overall feel, and final destination for the images can help you decide if golden hour is for you. When you are planning a photoshoot location is one of the first things to consider. Locations like shown that have open areas, low horizon lines and a lot of sky are ideal for golden hour and sunrise sessions. Fields, mountain overlooks, lakes and beaches are all great spots for beautiful low sun. Industrial locations with tall buildings (unless we’re on the roof), heavily wooded areas, or areas with a lot of elevation change are not ideal for these. The second question to ask is do golden hour photos achieve the look you’re after for you session. This is typically a simple yes or no. Lastly consider where the images are going. Do warm tones and hard lighting work for both your wedding stationary and your home? If your wedding has garden vibes and soft pastels maybe this isn’t the session for you. Something with colorful florals and soft lighting might achieve a more appropriate look. Is your home minimalist with nothing but neutrals? Again this might not be the session for you, let’s go industrial with concrete, brick and glass surrounding.
I absolutely love shooting during golden hour and think its a great choice for anyone that loves the warm glowing look.
